Two languages are not a cause of delay

Children all over the world grow up with more than one language. Learning two languages does not cause a language delay.

What is normal

  • Mixing words from both languages in one sentence.

  • Knowing some words in one language and other words in the other.

  • Going through a quiet period when starting a new language.

What helps

Speak the language you are most comfortable in. Read, sing and play in it. If you have a concern, look at both languages together: a speech therapist can help with that.

This article is general information, not a diagnosis or medical advice. If you are worried, ask a professional.
